Engineering and Design

UPS offers  a comprehensive design service incorporating all the major engineering disciplines. While meeting plant performance standards, UPS embodies features which are geared towards constructibility, efficiency of operation and maintainability.

Strict quality management ensures conformity with the requirements of the highest standards in the design and manufacture of equipment.

Civil Design

UPS is active in providing civil designs to the fertilizer, energy, chemical and petrochemical industries. In supportive roles, UPS offers an architectural service for the design of industrial buildings and a geotechnical facility encompassing all aspects of ground and soil studies.

Structural Design

This discipline includes the design of framed buildings, supporting structures for plant and equipment and steel floors integrated into concrete structures.

Mechanical Design

This discipline is involved from the earliest stages of the project to development of plant layouts which give effect to the process design. It defines the specifications of the mechanical plant, and undertakes the detailed design of custom - built equipment and the integration of associated units.

Material Handling

UPS has developed expertise in the technology of materials flow behavior. We have in - house expertise in all aspects of materials handling from the everyday application of transporting and conveying materials of various size distributions to the storage, reclaiming and loading - out of transport of materials.

Piping Design

Piping engineering entails preliminary piping studies involving P&ID's, pipe sizing, routing, specification and the design of pipe supports. Wherever possible, piping is designed to allow rapid production of isometric drawings with relevant bills of material ( BOMS ).

Process Engineering

At the outset of a project, the client’s process engineering and/or process vendor embark upon preliminary studies to determine project viability and the selection of the appropriate process technology.

Based on initial process flow sheets, UPS defines process requirements, generates mechanical flow diagrams ( MFDs ), process and instrument diagrams ( P&Ids ) and preliminary layouts. UPS is involved in all the construction phases of the plant to ensure process integrity.

Instrumentation and Process Control

At the outset of a project this discipline becomes intimately involved in the development of P&ID's or MFDs. From this point a complete detailed package is developed which includes the selection of appropriate instruments. UPS has gained experience in this area in a multitude of industrial plants.

To an increasingly large degree, UPS has become involved in the specification of Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers. Included in this work is the development of functional specifications, configuration data sheets and, where appropriate, data entry/programming and simulation on target systems.

Electrical Design

The electrical design group provides services in the fields of reticulation networks, motor control centers, constant and adjustable voltage, control and specialized electrical systems. From relatively simple applications to large and complex installations, the group has proved its ability to innovate by providing practical solutions to unique problems while adhering to national electrical codes and the desires of the client.
