DEAD SEA WORKS DG POWER PLANT COMBINED CYCLE

Diesel/steam turbine power plant commissioned by Dead Sea Works Ltd.

UPS has recently finished construction and engineering of a 110 MWe power and steam plant for Dead Sea Works Ltd.(DSW) in Sdom, Israel.

Each of its two 30 MW low speed diesel engines is equipped with a waste heat recovery boiler  (WHRB) to produce more than 2x120  T/H of superheated steam at 67 bar. This high steam to power ratio is achieved through supplementary firing of heavy fuel oil.  The free air combustion system can sustain full steam generation even when the engine is down.

The steam is passed through a 52 MW condensing turbine with about 160 T/H extracted as process steam for the chemical works.

The main equipment suppliers are Hyundai Heavy Industries (Korea) for diesel engines and DG station turnkey, ABB (Spain) for generators, Aalborg (Denmark)  for WHRB and GE(USA) for steam turbine and its generator.

UPS was the engineering, procurement, construction and management (EPCM) contractor of this $ 150 MM project, which will serve the energy needs of another UPS/DSW Project: Metallic Magnesium Electrolysis Plant.
